Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Each year the TAAF Winter Games of Texas keep getting bigger and bigger and January 17-18, 2009 is no exception. The multi-sport Olympic type event, now in its 4th year, has added dance and karate to its competitive roster.

The City of Frisco is set to welcome more than 4,000 athletes ready to showcase their abilities in front of 15,000 spectators during the 2009 TAAF Winter Games of Texas.

Recreational, special needs kids, and Olympic hopefuls of all ages and skill levels will compete in fourteen different events held in various venues across Frisco, with one event taking place in Plano:  basketball, Miracle League bowling, dance, fencing, figure skating, flag football, gymnastics, ice hockey, rock climbing, soccer, swimming, table tennis, wrestling, and karate. Athletes who medal in the Winter Games receive an automatic berth to the 2009 State Games of America.

The TAAF Winter Games of Texas promotes sportsmanship and gives athletes the chance to hone their skills and make a few new friends in the process. Registration is still open for most events. The Winter Games are organized by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, the Frisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the City of Frisco Parks and Recreation Department.
